Why do we lie to others and ourselves?
When was the last time you lied? You probably think a very long time ago, but what if I tell you, that it was today? On average every person lies every 3 minutes during the conversation.
Every lie has a price, but not every lie has the intent to harm.
Sometimes we lie to protect and to show love and that we care.
Have you ever lied to someone that they look good today even though you did not really think so? Have you lied to someone just to give them hope? We are thought to lie, just to be polite. We are thought to lie, just to avoid conflict. We are taught to lie, not to hurt someone´s feelings.
So yes, we go and lie…
We also lie to ourselves. Sometimes to achieve our goals, to get through a tough day, or sometimes not to face the reality. Sometimes it is easier to believe in a lie we tell ourselves than face the truth.
Sometimes we lie to impress someone.
Sometimes we lie at a job interview.
Sometimes we lie to a loved one…
And sometimes we lie with the intent to harm, but I do not believe, there's any reader like this here.
We do not believe we are lied to, at least not every 3 minutes. But we lie to someone every 3 minutes… Maybe not you, maybe not me, but on average we do…
And maybe it is okay… Who wants the ugly truth anyways?
