If you think there is a time for you to get a therapist or coach or psychologist, firstly ask yourself these 3 questions:

  1. Is my sleep regime in order?
  2. Is my diet in order?
  3. Do I exercise enough?

If you answer YES to all these questions then go seek help to fix something that is bothering you.

If you answer NO, then start by getting your sleep, diet, and exercise in order. If those things are messed up it is hard to keep your life together. Plus, any professional will tell you to start with these 3 areas.

Of course, you can get a coach to help you to improve your sleep, diet, and exercise if you need help there.

But get these fundamentals in order before anything else.

Furthermore, read this. This is such an eye-opener.

When treating depression, it’s important to look at a person’s life situation as a whole:

Do they have a meaningful job?

Have they received enough education?

How fulfilling is their social life? (Do they have friends and/or an intimate relationship?)

Are they in good physical health?

Do they use their free time in a meaningful way?

Dr. Peterson’s clinical experience has shown that if a person answers yes to all of these questions and still experiences depression, they’re likely to benefit from antidepressant medications. However, if the patient is unfulfilled in these basic life areas, medication is unlikely to make a difference in their depression. Instead, they may greatly benefit from lifestyle improvement.

So what about a little bit of lifestyle improvement?
